The pervasive use of technology can be an incredible teaching tool for teachers. There are so many benefits to having access to the internet and its unlimited resources. However, can technology be used too much in a classroom? For example, if a student is always using spell check on assignments and papers is he or she becoming dependent on the technology?
I think there is definitely a line between too much technology and just enough. I think for you especially though, in special ed, it will always be a huge benefit. For aided communication and helping kids that might have issues that make them more isolated, technology will be so useful. I actually think it's important for kids to be able to "cell speak" and write in the conventional way, and know the differeance and when each is appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI think we are already becoming overly dependent on technology. But what can we do? We live in a technological society and as frustrating as technology can be (at least it can be for me) we have no choise but to use it and help our students appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture. You were a really cute kid! Spell check is the way to go. I stink at spelling. When do people hand write things? Notes to themselves? A journal perhaps? Who is checking the spelling or cares about it then?
ReplyDeleteThat picture rules. I'm with you on this, although worrying about spell check is nothing compared to plagiarism for me.
ReplyDeleteIn a lot of ways technology handicaps us, but it also allows us to become more and more specialized- which can in turn make a stronger economy. Jacks of all vs. Masters of one
ReplyDeleteSpell check has a hard time with context. I recommend an initial draft be hand-edited and turned in by the student. This teaching tactic can ensure editing and spelling skills are maintained.
